Invest in a Social Enterprise - an Organic Farm for the Future

Have you ever wanted to own an organic farm but never quite been brave enough to take the step - or had the funds to do it? You could become a co-owner of the our social enterprise - wherever you live!  We have investors from the local area and from as far afield as New York and France and from many different areas of the UK including Yorkshire, Cumbria, Cornwall and more.

Now's your chance to become a co-owner of a unique Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project  based between Bristol and Bath. Set in the beautiful Chew Valley, The Community Farm is a social enterprise owned by its 500 members. The Farm grows and sells local, organic food. It then invests its profits into activities  to reconnect people to the land where there food is grown.

The Community Farm is very much of and for the community, involving local people in all aspects of its work:
  • The Community Farm is community owned, with 500 shareholders.
  • Each week, around 400 local households have locally-grown food delivered to their door via The Community Farm's box delivery service.
  • The Community Farm works with likeminded local producers and suppliers, thereby supporting local businesses.
  • Through volunteering, local people participate in growing and other aspects of The Community Farm's work.
  • The Community Farm provides activities and learning experiences for local children, adults and vulnerable groups.
Our landowner, Luke Hasell, was shortlisted in the BBC Food and Farming Awards 2014 as Outstanding Farmer of the Year.

The Farm started trading in April 20111. Since then it has faced many challenges - the weather being one of them - and has achieved many successes. These include increasing box deliveries from 300 to 400 a week; winning a Social Enterprise Development Award; succesful grant funding from Village SOS (Big Lottery) and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation as well as taking part in a European research project, Supurbfood.

How can you become a part of it?
You can invest anything from £50 to £20,000 in Community Shares in our organic farm. Your social investment will enable the Farm to carry out its essential business of growing vegetables on our 28 acres of organic land, delivering organic vegetable boxes to households in Bristol, Bath, Chew Valley and Frome, and our community learning and education work.

Your investment will be used to:
  • invest in equipment essential to making us more resilient in the future
  • build up our reserves to put us in a more stable position for the challenges faced
Full details of how to become a member by investing in the farm, and the benefits, can be found here.
