The Community Farm scoops BOOM Award

The Community Farm scoops BOOM Award

Everyone at The Community Farm was over the moon when on 11 May we won Best Box Scheme in the Soil Association’s BOOM (Best of Organic Market) awards.

The awards recognise amazing organic products, retailers, and restaurants and bloggers who promote organic food and living.

We grow and sell locally-sourced and organic produce and plough our profits back into learning experiences and activities for local children, adults and vulnerable people.

Working with network of organic producers and local farmers, the our box delivery service supplies homes throughout Bath, Bristol and North Somerset.

Not only does organic farming produce very tasty fruit and vegetables, it also provides a rich habitat where wildlife can thrive.

Ped Asgarian, Managing Director of The Community Farm has this to say about the award:

“For a small, community-owned social enterprise to have won this award is amazing. It seems a fitting reward for some of the most dedicated and passionate people I have had the pleasure of working with.
Together, we're making this project succeed through a belief in what we are working towards and a desire to overcome adversity. It's good to know we're having a positive impact on this planet and that we're being recognised for doing so."
Winners of the BOOM (Best of Organic Market) Awards were announced at a glittering ceremony held at Borough Market Hall in London. This year’s winning products are as varied as they are delicious – ranging from organic wine to indulgent ice-creams, gourmet cheese, quality vegetables and ethical meat and poultry.

Judged by an independent panel of well-known experts, including chefs, restaurateurs, food writers and specialists, celebrity foodies and consumer judges, the winners showcase the very best of the UK’s organic food and drink industry.

Anna Jones, former chef and food stylist for Jamie Oliver, is this year’s BOOM Ambassador. Speaking about the awards she said:

“I believe that food and eating should be joyful, and good organic produce is at the centre of this joy. There has been a real shift towards people wanting to know the origins of what they're eating - from where it was grown to who planted the seeds -and organic produce has these values at its core. I am excited to celebrate the individuals and businesses that are giving us some brilliant choices about what we buy and eat.”
Competition for the 2016 BOOMs was really tough – with almost 500 entries across all categories, the winning products highlight the innovation currently happening in organic food. According to the Soil Association 2016 Organic Market Report, the UK organic market is in its third year of steady growth and is set to break the £2billion threshold very shortly.

This award comes hot on the heels of The Community Farm being shortlisted for Best Local Food Retailer in the Western Daily Press Food & Farming Awards 2016.
