News from the farm: October

The leaves on the farm have all rusted and are falling like snow. There is no denying it any longer. The summer has left us and autumn is well and truly here.>

Tomatoes of many colours

This digital picture was 'painted' by one of our regular volunteers, Janet Thumin. It's called 'Tomatoes of Many Colours' and shows all the beautiful varieties of cherry tomato we grow in our polytunnels.

We have six main varieties: Sakura, Bartelly, Chadwick, Sungold, Galena and Chocolate Cherry. Each one has its own unique colour and flavour. We mix and match them in our punnets to give you the best of what the season has to offer. Delicious!

Look out for more of Janet’s lovely artwork in our newsletter.

Healthy City Week - 22 October

Healthy City Week aims “to inspire citizens of Bristol to achieve healthier lifestyles as part of a more sustainable future city”. Come breathe some fresh country air and try a wonderful workout The Community Farm way! Play farmer and join us for the day helping to harvest our crops or prepare for the winter.

Volunteer with us

Volunteering events are not your only opportunity to 'come play farmer’. Lots of volunteers choose to help out regularly on weekdays.
Regular volunteers have the opportunity to participate in the farm work, share knowledge and gain experience of organic growing; all while keeping fit and healthy.

You don't need to have experience to join in as all training is given and you'll have the full support of our experienced growers whenever you need it.

Harvey’s scarecrow trail

After a brief pause last year The Community Farm will once again be taking part in Harvey's Scarecrow Trail, which raises money for the Harvey Hext Trust. The trail will run from 2 October – 30 October.

Pick up a scarecrow trail map from The Co-op in Chew Magna, Chew Stoke Village Shop, Winford Stores or Chew Lake Cafe. A map costs just £2.50 with all monies going to The Harvey Hext Appeal.

Better Food Co. farm visit

We were delighted to host the Better Food Co. for a day on the farm as part of our Adopt-a-crop programme.

Crop sponsorship funds one of our crops from germination through to harvest; but as it grows this crop will help us to achieve so much more. It will support us in our work to provide learning experiences for local children, adults and vulnerable people.

Olivia from the Better Food Team wrote a wonderful article about their day with us:
