Organic September

Organic September

Organic September, the Soil Association’s annual celebration of all things organic, will come to a close this week, but don't let that stop you choosing organic all year round!>

So what is organic?

Organic food is produced using environmentally friendly farming methods, which support ecological balance and biodiversity.

The Soil Association’s standards and activities, and the practice of organic farmers, are based on a set of internationally recognised principles, to:
  • Sustain and enhance the health of soil, plant, animal, human and planet as one and indivisible
  • Work with, emulate and help to sustain living ecological systems and cycles
  • Ensure fairness with regard to the common environment and life opportunities
  • Manage agriculture responsibly to protect the health and wellbeing of current and future generations and the environment.

The Community Farm

As an organic farm, we (and the farms that supply us) grow food in a way that supports nature, providing natural habitats and food sources for wildlife to help increase biodiversity. So, while you’re eating well, so are the birds and animals around you.

All the products we sell are organic, certified by the Soil Association or in transition to organic standards. We also insist on the equivalent organic certification for any products sourced from oversees.

Get on our land

Many of us who buy organic do so out of a desire to protect the environment. We also want to have greater confidence that what we are eating is wholesome and healthy.

At The Community Farm we encourage you to come along and see for yourself how we grow our produce and manage our land. We provide opportunities throughout the year to join us at the farm. You can volunteer alongside our field staff and learn about organic agriculture. We also have a range of learning opportunities for adults and children.
