Endangered species on the farm!

Endangered species on the farm!

During Earthwise's Field to Fork Cookery Day we found a Violet Oil Beetle!

Violet Oil Beetles are endangered as they "are strongly dependent upon the long-term maintenance of wild-flower-rich, semi-natural grasslands. It is the loss of these habitats to development, agricultural intensification and changes in land use that are thought to have caused their decline."

We (and the farms that supply us) grow food in a way that supports nature; providing natural habitats and food sources for wildlife to help increase biodiversity. So while you’re eating well, so are the birds and animals around you.

Amongst the plethora of wildlife living on the farm are skylarks, woodpeckers, lapwings, yellowhammers, buzzards, kestrels, stoats, badgers and deer.

"Violet Oil Beetles are important for conservation as they are indicators of strong mining bee populations and of high quality, wildflower-rich habitats."
