A Yurt for Learning

Plans are well under way for a yurt for learning here at The Community Farm. After securing Lottery funding from the Village SOS and Awards for All funds, we’re in the process of organising a whole host of educational activities and workshops through which we hope to engage people with the food we eat and the environment that sustains us all.

Having been recently appointed as the project’s Community Engagement Worker , Claire Rosling is really excited to be involved in this new phase for the farm. It will provide an excellent way of supporting the farm’s ethos - putting the community at the centre of what we do here - allowing people to learn and share skills in growing, preparing and sharing food in addition to other traditional land-based crafts.

We have plans to build a beautiful 24 ft yurt for these learning activities which will hopefully be up and functioning from this November - it is currently in the planning permission stages and we will know the outcome by the end of August. The yurt will then take 2 months to build.  This centre will support us to run lots of different activities and workshops for adults, children and school groups. Two of the first workshops we plan to run will be: building a compost loo and building a cob oven - watch this space!

We’re full of exciting ideas of workshops and activities we’d like to run at the farm but we’d love to hear what you’d like to see happen! Please get in touch or leave a comment below or come along to the Harvest Celebration on 15th September. We’ll keep you updated with any news and developments as we progress with the project.
