At The Farm we love to cook sweetcorn on the barbeque, straight from the field, as it brings out the sweet and smoky flavours. Loaded with phytochemicals that promote healthy vision. It also contains B vitamins, iron, protein and potassium. So it's not just tasty - it's good for you too!
This versatile veg originated in the Americas. Thanks to the early explorers, its popularity soon spread to Europe and across the world. We're growing an heirloom bi-colour crop, which yields reliably. Some 800 plants are currently in the ground at The Farm, and they're looking good. Sweetcorn thrives in lots of sunlight, so the recent prolonged spell of hot weather means they're larger than average, which is great news for our customers!
Sweetcorn is extremely seasonal with one crop yielding produce for only a couple of weeks. As a result, we stagger sowing in May and June at The Farm to ensure we have a steady supply available for our veg boxes from August through to September.
One Sweet Package
Ideally you'd consume sweetcorn straight from the field as, once cut, its sugars start to convert ti starch and it gradually loses its sweetness. The variety we've planted has a lengthier conversion period and so retains its sweetness for longer. For the fullest flavour , it's best to eat from your veg bx on the day you receive it, or pop into the fridge for freshness.
